Staff Safety and Horse Welfare

The daily routine continues at Northgate Lodge with the emphasis on the safety of our staff and the ongoing care and wellbeing of the horses.

The horses are being exercised in accordance with the social distancing guidelines and other health measures issued by our various industry bodies.

It is important for the health of the horses but their current training regime is to maintain their welfare rather than race fitness.

The group dedicated to formalising the resumption of racing are working hard and we will welcome their efforts once the industry is up and running again, once it is deemed safe to do so.

Hope all our friends and followers are staying well

Best Wishes from all at Northgate Lodge

The show goes on

Very difficult times for all of us but UK horse racing is working hard to keep the industry going and will race, with restrictions, behind closed doors. The Coronavirus post below has more information on some of the measures now in place.

Northgate Lodge is happy to support the upcoming fixtures later this week and we have entries at NEWCASTLE on Friday and LINGFIELD on Saturday.

See our entries page on the main website for details

Coronavirus Restrictions

Northgate Lodge fully supports the measures being introduced by the BHA and other racing industry organisations to continue with UK racing but behind closed doors.

The welfare of the staff who will keep the show on the road is paramount. We are therefore asking owners NOT to attend the yard at this time, keeping any social contact to a minimum. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we will be here and please feel free to contact us at any time.

The 16 tracks owned by Arena are indicating that owners will not be admitted during this difficult period. This applies to Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Lingfield etc where we run the majority of our horses. Tracks under other ownership are, at the moment, allowing 2 owners to attend per runner.

Restrictions may change so we will update you as new information becomes available.

Thank you for your support and understanding at this tough time.

Best Wishes from Antony and all at Northgate Lodge

Puchita gains her 3rd win

PUCHITA won her 3rd race at Southwell tonight in the 6.00pm contest and that came from her last 4 runs. She won by 3/4 of a length under Harry Russell.

She also ran well to be a close 4th on Tuesday but the drop to 5 furlongs and a draw that saw her isolated wide, was perhaps not to her advantage. Returning to 6 furlongs tonight, the distance of all her wins, she skipped along and was soon in command, holding on well at the finish.

Our next runners are at Wolverhampton tomorrow night. We then have a break for Flat racing until next Friday

Puchita’s win put us on the 17 winner mark for the year

Daafr follows up his recent win with another success

DAAFR landed the 7.30pm race at Wolverhampton tonight in smooth style by three-quarters of a length.

This was his 2nd course win and he holds a follow up entry over the same course and distance in the 6.10pm race on Monday.

He has given us our 16th winner of the year

Tathmeen gains his 3rd win of 2020 at Newcastle

TATHMEEN quickened up nicely to win again and land his 3rd race of the year in the 6.00pm at Newcastle this evening. He was 2 1/2 lengths clear at the line and holds an entry with the option to return to Newcastle on Tuesday for a 0-75 grade handicap under a penalty. The race is at 6.45pm and we also have our recent winner Mutabaahy and in form Klopp entered for the race.

Tathmeen seems to enjoy the challenges of Newcastle having now won 5 races over the 5 furlong course. He has however also won at Wolverhampton and has scored 6 times for the yard since Antony shrewdly bought him from Richard Hannon at the Tattersalls sales.

His win tonight gave us our 3rd winner of the week and our 15th for the year to date

14 Winners for 2020

Puchita’s latest win took our winner total for the year to 14

There is now a ‘Statistics’ button on the main website homepage linking to the Racing Post Statistic page for those of you who like to follow these things. There is also a similar link, ‘Horses’ providing details on the Horses that have run for the yard during the current year.

Puchita wins again by 6l

Following some near misses and taking a while to win, PUCHITA has now won twice in a week and took the 7.30pm race this evening by a commanding 6 lengths.

Not all horses are suited by Southwell but she has taken to it extremely well and has improved for each of her runs there. She could run there again next Friday, 13th March in a similar race and we’ll have to look at all opportunities given the distance of her victory.

Our next runners are on Thursday at Newcastle. See the entries page on the main website for more details

Thawry is winner 13 for 2020

THAWRY landed the 4.45pm race at Wolverhampton on MONDAY, travelling well and holding on when hitting the front to win by a Neck.

He became our first winner for MARCH 2020 and placed us on the 13 winner mark for the year.

PUCHITA is our next runner in the 7.30pm race at Southwell on Tuesday.
